Near Nisur Square in the center of Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, two cranes are steadily placing a 30 meter long and approximately 31 ton prefabricated beam onto a newly constructed bridge pier. The early morning in Baghdad in March was still a bit chilly, but the construction site was a bustling scene.

At this moment, Guo Xiaowei, the general manager of the Baghdad Nisur three-dimensional transportation hub project undertaken by Sichuan Railway International Economic and Technological Cooperation Co., Ltd. (Chuantie International), was wearing a safety helmet and holding the design drawings, watching every step of the beam erection progress.

After the US launched the Iraq War in 2003, the road infrastructure in Baghdad was severely damaged, and the traffic congestion situation did not improve significantly for a long time.

The Nisur three-dimensional transportation hub project started construction in July last year and is expected to be completed in January 2025. The project includes a four story structure consisting of bridges, ground roads (railways), tunnels, and underpass tunnels, with the underpass tunnel reaching a maximum depth of 24 meters. After the completion of the project, it is expected to significantly alleviate traffic congestion and noise pollution in the core area of Baghdad.

Chuantie International has proposed a three-dimensional transportation solution of "2 elevated roads+5 tunnels" for this purpose. We need to act like surgeons, skillfully constructing 'heart bridges' in the' heart area 'of the capital's transportation, to alleviate the' traffic obstruction 'problem that troubles Baghdad, "said Guo Xiaowei.

The Nisur project will also carry out relocation and renovation of old underground pipelines and cables in the surrounding area. After completion, it will significantly enhance the municipal public service capacity of the surrounding area and effectively improve local livelihoods.

Obtaining quotations, coordinating communication, drafting contracts... Ibrahim, an Iraqi engineer who studied abroad in China, is busy rushing around the project site. "I like this sense of busyness and fullness. Here I have witnessed China's advanced bridge construction technology, and I also feel the Chinese people's good qualities of friendliness, diligence and tolerance," Ibrahim told reporters.

The Nisur project has attracted teachers and students from multiple universities in Iraq to visit and exchange ideas due to its advanced design concepts, construction techniques, and equipment. Sichuan Railway International has trained over 300 local teachers and students. "The Chinese say, 'It's better to teach people how to fish than to teach people how to fish.' We not only hope to make the Nissol project a model for Iraq's municipal transportation projects, but also hope to train more local professionals for Iraq, so that Chinese technology can take root and better help Iraq's post-war reconstruction." Guo Xiaowei said.

At 5 pm, the evening rush hour for transportation in Baghdad arrived as scheduled. Ride hailing driver Latif took out his phone and took a photo of the construction site while waiting for traffic at the Nisur intersection.

This is one of the most congested roads in Baghdad, and I know that Chinese companies are building a huge three-dimensional transportation project for us. We are looking forward to the day it is completed, and we have full confidence in Made in China, "Latif said as he posted the photo on social media, specifically labeling it as" Made in China "and adding a" like "emoji.
