Despite recent extreme weather events recently in Guangzhou, the 135th China Import and Export Fair, widely known as the Canton Fair, concludes on Sunday with resounding success.

“At the fair, I have seen the manufacturing strength of China and keep my finger on the pulse of technological innovation. This is a vibrant place,” a buyer said, revealing the reasons behind the expanded “circle of friends” of Chinese foreign trade enterprises.

“This exhibition has opened the door to more future collaborations and helped us find more partners moving in the same direction,” an exhibitor said.

On Friday, the third day of the fair’s third phase, a Turkish buyer taking $10,000 in cash with him found the booth of Changxing Yibei New Materials Technology Co. “I have heard about your company for a long time. I want to place an order now, regardless of product colors, I want them all,” the buyer told an executive of the company.

Yibei’s good reputation can be partly attributed to the 2022 Qatar World Cup, the hottest one in the sports event’s history, when the company’s cool-touch silk scarves and temperature regulating fabrics became the best-sellers, with its technology “Cool Interlining” winning widespread fame.

This year, Yibei’s orders are already scheduled until July.

Since the Canton Fair serves as a weathervane for new product launches, Chinese companies can gain insights into market demands and quickly seize new business opportunities.

The exhibition area of medicine, healthcare products and medical devices, which is one of the areas with the largest number of visitors during the third phase, has attracted a throng of buyers from the countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.

“The Canton Fair is the most authoritative trade platform for massage equipment, so we launched a program to recruit global partners during the exhibition,” said a spokesperson of Fujian Rovos Fitness Co. The company strives to create a shared and scenario-based intelligent health experience mode centering on internet plus healthcare.

It aims to meet people’s demand for experiencing a smart and healthy lifestyle in a more flexible and convenient way.

Data from the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Medicines and Health Products showed that in the first quarter of this year, the export volume of massage and healthcare equipment reached $1.08 billion, up 6.8 percent year-on-year. Of the total, exports to Singapore and Malaysia increased by 50.6 percent and 28.6 percent respectively.

The 135th Canton Fair has seen a noticeable increase in the number of buyers from Southeast Asia, South America and the Middle East.

Taishan Sports Industry Group said its new products such as judo mats and gymnastic equipment using carbon fiber have attracted much attention from buyers from Southeast Asia, the Middle East, South America, Central Asia and Russia. As of Friday, the company received intended orders worth more than $200,000.

Shandong Qiyue Group, an executive member of the China Toy and Juvenile Products Association, has made more efforts to expand the Middle Eastern, South American, Japanese and South Korean markets in recent years.

In the first three days of the third phase, the company signed orders for 20 containers of goods. They will be exported to Spain, Central Asia, Dubai and Saudi Arabia.

At the Canton Fair, traditional brands from Tianjin and other places have poured more resources in promoting Chinese cultural inheritance and development.

Tianjin Food Import and Export Co, for example, has displayed three kinds of wine and liquor, which all boast a brewing history of over 700 years and an export history of over 100 years.

Established in the early 1950s, the company owns two national time-honored brands, one city-level time-honored brand, and five intangible cultural heritage items.

“Many buyers have learned about the profound heritage of Tianjin’s traditional wine and food culture, and we have also received many orders. Tianjin’s time-honored brands are showing new vitality,” a company staff member said.

Tianjin Pharmaceutical Da Ren Tang Group, specializing in traditional Chinese medicine, has always adhered to the traditional production processes and followed the concept of “green Chinese herbal medicine”.

At the ongoing Canton Fair, the company has brought a batch of TCM products, which have sparked great interest among buyers from Europe and the United States, as well as other BRI-related countries and regions including the Middle East, Southeast Asia and South Asia.
